Let us begin by offering you our heartfelt congratulations on the birth (or the upcoming birth) of your child! As parents you are filled with excitement…and exhaustion! This is a time of new beginnings for everyone. The Church rejoices with you in this most wonderful time!

We are here for you and want to help you and guide you. Our infant baptism preparation has 4 main steps.
1. Registration
2. A short meeting with Father Joseph to get to know you and give you next steps
3. An online baptism series (can be done before or after your meeting with Fr. Joseph, also works as godparent prep course) to be completed
4. Gathering needed paperwork

Please note: Any child 7 years and older will enroll in the Rite of Christian Initiation adapted for Children program. These children will be attending classes to prepare for the reception of Baptism, Confirmation, and First Holy Communion at the Easter Vigil Celebration.

Choosing a Godparent
Being a Godparent is not simply an honorary title – it is a role of responsibility and commitment. So think ahead!!! Take heart in knowing that your choice of two practicing Catholics as Godparents will indicate to all your family and friends that you take your child’s Baptism seriously and are putting faith first when it comes to your child.

Consider also that a Godparent will continue to play a role in the other sacraments in the child’s life. For example, when the child receives his/her First Holy Communion only a Catholic Godparent will be able to participate fully with the child in that event. In the Sacrament of Confirmation, the Baptismal Godparent is an ideal choice as one’s sponsor, a role which only a practicing Catholic will be eligible to undertake.

Also, please note that a baptized Catholic who no longer practices their Catholic faith, usually because they do not attend Mass or they attend a non-Catholic church, cannot be considered a Godparent or a Christian witness.

Godparents Must:
- be at least 16 years of age, unless the pastor has given permission for a person of younger age.
- be a Catholic who has received the sacraments of Baptism, Holy Communion, and Confirmation.
- be a practicing Catholic who attends Mass regularly, goes to Confession if in serious sin at least once a year, and is a registered parishioner in his/her parish.
- If married, a person who was married in the Catholic Church or with the Church’s permission.
